Juneteenth Community Video Project
What does Juneteenth Mean To You? We asked library patrons and staff to share their thoughts about the Juneteenth holiday, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.
On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Texas were told they were free, two-and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation Act of 1863. A century and a half later, people across the United States continue to celebrate the day, which is now a federal holiday. Learn more by visiting your local library or www.lapl.org
Produced as a collaboration between the Social Science Department and the Octavia Lab of the Los Angeles Public Library.

I'm 51, Caucasian and a huge comic book fan and I remember in the 80s that there was a comic book series known as Love and Rockets but for whatever reason I never thought to check it out. So, I went through all the Marvel and DC comics, then Image Comics, then I got into Robert Crumb, Moebius, then graphic novels like Watchmen, The Sandman and most recently Saga, the later 3 being among my favorite, but then I decided to pick up the multiple volumes of Love and Rockets. I'm up to volume 22 and I can't get enough. It is the most original comic book series I have ever read. I love all the characters. I love the composition, editing and direction from panel to panel. I love the mix of reality and magical realism. I'm sure Love and Rockets must have been hugely influential on cinema storytelling. Love and Rockets is now my favorite comic book series of all time. I know there's some litigation going on but I do hope it becomes a TV series on a streaming service that won't censor it and will do it justice. I'm thinking maybe HBO Max. I think it has the potential to be the next greatest TV show ever.

I am proud as hell to be descended from a Scottish prisoner of war. I have ancestors escaping the Irish Great Hunger and also ancestors who were the land owners evicting Irish tenants. There are newspaper articles for 2 generations of English landowners in Ireland getting shot for evicting tenants. They were Waylands.

My ancestor was definitely sold into "slavery" in 1745, it was well recorded and I have all of the records of the prisons he was in and what ship he was transported on and the British records specifically say they were being sold. I don't have the resource with me but it is all in a book, or records file, compiled by an English source I think.

Only a story about the Night Stalker could get me to even sniff in the vicinity of this channel. What's stunning is that it's the very philosophy driving institutions like the LA Public Library, that gives rise to sociopaths like Ramirez. No right or wrong, destruction of innocence, the shedding of innocent blood, and the destruction of homes and families. Ramirez perfectly embodied this philosophy, yet we call him a monster. That should tell us something about the utter evil of what has now become the thinking of places like LA, San Francisco, Oregon, Illinois, and New York. This country is imploding right before our very eyes.

Saw the attached clip which was painful to watch. I have been to 110 countries and Africa several times. I am haplo E and I'm a black Scot and black Hebrew. My wife is from Poland and all her male relatives have haplo R- the same haplos as the Western Europeans and white Americans who are claiming dominance over the planet. History has been made up over the last 200 years. Has anyone read the Ben Franklin Essay of 1751 parag 24? The world pre 1800s when the population was under 700 million people was mostly / almost entirely black. At the time of Jesus- black Jesus as we now know Jesus and all Bible figures were black. Putin released black Russian icons to the world. When Jesus was on earth the pop was 190 million. These were black people and blacks ruled up to mad King George III of England and black Napoleon of France. The entire line of Stuart/ Stewart kings were black. Isreal- and those haplo Js came from the Caucasus as well - same as my wife's people and they have records going back to the Caucasus. Why are there so many wars today ? Brown folk are woke to the truth and things will only get worse if the ruling powers do not concede and tell the truth. We have 8 billion people on the planet today and barely 10 percent are white. Now if 100 million to 200 million blacks were not murdered including black Indians as the Indians were not red but black when a black Columbus showed up in 1492- if these blacks were not murdered (including the black Hebrews during the Holocaust in the 1940s )- our population would be over 10 billion of which 4 percent would be white. If all the paintings of kings / Jesus and whole host of people back to time of Christ 2000 years ago when we had 190 million people on the planet would you not assume that most at least 70 percent of the planet would be WHITE? People dont have any damn sense and most people are sad to say ASSES, and cant read for themselves. “Even more interesting is how the Moors described their Caucasus linked foes: Sa-id of Andalusia (1029-1071) [FIRST EDITION--------- NOTE ] wrote the following of his White Iberian opponents:(T)hey “are nearer animals than men … They are by nature unthinking and their manners crude. Their bellies protrude; their color is white and their hair is long. In sharpness and delicacy of spirit and in intellectual perspicacity, they are nil. Ignorance, lack of reasoning power and boorishness are common among them.”(Kitab Tabakat al Umaxn (Blachere K. p. 36. 1935). Graeco-Roman Ancients unequivocally describe the Moors as black skinned: “And I have heard this man say that beyond the country which he ruled there was no habitation of men, but desert land extending to a great distance, and that beyond that there are men, not black-skinned like the Moors, but very white in body and fair-haired. So much, then, for these things.” Procopius. History of the Wars, Books III and IV / The Vandalic War (Kindle Locations 1921-1923).” Lots of sources coming out. Behold the angry mob is coming ! Let the truth out now !
